In the realm of environmental stewardship and climate action, Washington has a legacy to uphold. The state has made strides in clean energy, yet challenges persist. The proposed Fair Access to Community Solar Act, endorsed by a group of dedicated representatives, aims to address these challenges and advance equitable solar policies.

Despite hosting the country's first community solar project, Washington is currently ranked 31st in deployment.

The proposed legislation seeks to remedy this by establishing a scalable community solar program. It addresses the limitations of existing programs, unlocking state and federal incentives for greater savings among low-income residents and businesses.

The Thurgood Marshall Middle School community solar project, in the Olympia School District, was developed by Olympia Community Solar.

The legislation emphasizes locally sited community solar projects, proven effective in expanding clean energy benefits to historically marginalized communities. Key features include a crediting program for subscribers and a mandate that 50% of participants be low-income ratepayers or organizations serving such families.

As Washington navigates its energy landscape, the Fair Access to Community Solar Act offers a comprehensive solution.
